How to buy CBD online or in-store

What’s the problem with CBD?

Picking out a CBD tincture, edible or other product is a very confusing process. You may have heard of CBD and its purported health benefits, but it’s not clear how it will affect you. On top of that, there are bad actors trying to make a quick buck on a hot trend.

Here we try to simplify the process in a few steps.

Why do you want to take a CBD product?

Figuring out what you’re trying to achieve will allow you to isolate the exact effect you’re trying to create.

Here are some reasons you may want to take a CBD product. Full disclosure: we cannot legally claim that any of these benefits will actually occur. The FDA has yet to see any research that backs these claims.

  • Recovering after a workout or strenuous physical event

  • Nagging everyday aches and pains

  • To get better sleep and feel rested upon waking

  • Reduce your anxiety, or mental stress

  • Recovering from a late-night out, or other body stress situations

Dosing: How much do I take?

Start with a smaller dose and see what works best for you. Here is a quick dosing schedule. Stop at the dosage where you feel the best, continue with higher dosages if you don’t feel the effect.

  • Day 1: 5mg CBD

  • Day 2: 10mg CBD

  • Day 3: 20mg CBD

  • Day 4 30mg CBD

  • Day 5 40mg+ CBD

If you don’t feel any effects after 40 or 50mg, I’m sorry to say that you may have a high tolerance for cannabinoids. That means that although you can still get the benefits, it may feel like you’re just wasting money since you don’t feel immediate results. Stick with a higher dose for a week or two and see if you are feeling better in general. If so, that’s a good level to continue on with.

Get recommendations

If you have a good health food store that carries reputable brands that could be your best bet. You can talk to the owner and see which one they recommend. If you are not able to find a trusted source you’re second best bet is to find recommendations from your friends and family. Although many people are still confused by CBD, you should send them this article so they can evaluate CBD for themselves.

Evaluate

Evaluate the brands that carry purpose-specific products. Some brands focus on generic wellness and don’t list possible effects, while others highlight specific outcomes. Focus on the ones that list specific effects if you are using CBD in order to help a specific issue.

But do keep in mind that all hemp companies can’t list specific treatments. Due to FDA regulations, hemp companies can’t list out benefits that, although possibly proven effective in the future, haven’t been tested. Although hindering hemp companies, this is a good thing for the consumer.

A few things to keep in mind are…

  • Look for actual active ingredients and no fillers

    • Cannabidiol (CBD) is what you’re looking for primarily. Others, such as Cannabigerol (CBG) and Cannabinol (CBN), among other cannabinoids are also good.

  • Look for misleading claims

    • Some fake CBD products claim they are 30,000 milligrams of hemp oil! The reason they can get away with this is that hemp oil may or may not contain any cannabinoids.

  • Read the Supplement Facts

    • If a company doesn’t list out Supplement Facts, that’s a big red flag. Skip it.

    • How many milligrams are you targeting? How many days will it last you?

    • Do you have dietary restrictions?

    • Do you prefer additional supplements added-in, or just want the purest form? Keep in mind that all tinctures need a carrier oil to dilute the cannabis oil to a specific dosage.

    • Check the “Other ingredients” label to make sure it’s agreeable to your lifestyle.
